Commissioner of Agriculture and Commerce, Cindy Hyde-Smith, has announced today that the Mississippi Board of Animal Health (MBAH) will open a pet evacuation shelter for household pets at 1:00 p.m. at Barn 8 on the Mississippi State Fairgrounds located off High Street (1207 Mississippi Street) just off I-55 in Jackson. Members of the Mississippi Animal Response Team will be present at the shelter to assist.
“Pets are a very important part of many of our families. This shelter will provide pet owners, who are facing the stresses of having to evacuate, the relief of knowing that their pets are being protected in a safe place,” said Agriculture Commissioner Cindy Hyde-Smith.
More information about the shelter can found at the MBAH Facebook site (www.facebook.com/msboardofanimalheath) or call the MBAH Disaster Hotline at 1-888-722-3106.
