Upgrading the playground for inner-city children at the Farish Street YMCA will be the goal of WellsFest 2012 on September 29.
Families in the area around the Y--half a block from the corner of Farish and Monument streets--face tough challenges in preparing their children for school and the Y’s Child Development Center seeks to help those families tackle some of those challenges.
WellsFest funds will be used to promote those efforts, chiefly through upgrading the playground.
The Y officials note that families in the area are caught in a vicious cycle of poverty.
“The opportunity for more outdoor play will help us promote healthy lifestyles and make a positive impact on the youth obesity epidemic this community faces.”
WellsFest, now one of the top 20 September events in the Southeast, is devoted to helping service organizations in the Jackson area. This will be WellsFest #29.
