Every year, public donations during the Thanksgiving and Christmas seasons help Stewpot provide a complete Holiday Meal to hundreds of families in the metro Jackson area. Last year, Stewpot provided nearly 1,000 complete Thanksgiving and Christmas food baskets to families below the poverty level. These baskets contained a turkey, boxed dressing, cranberry sauce, 2 cans of sweet potatoes, 2 cans of green peas, rolls, sugar and canned fruit. This year Stewpot has over 467 families already signed up for the distribution of Thanksgiving baskets this week on November 13th-15th. Stewpot is asking that those who are able to make a food contribution to please do so in time for the distribution.
This occasion enables parents and grandparent to take a child to the grocery store to explain what they are doing and thus share with them the meaning of the holidays. For those unable to shop, a $25 contribution to Stewpot at 1100 West Capitol Street, Jackson, MS 39203 will purchase all the ingredients necessary for the meal.
